Have yourself a merry green Christmas with these simple tips from Ecover

Time will tell if we get a White Christmas this year but either way, these simple tips from Ecover can help you have a greener Christmas !

Have yourself a merry green Christmas…

Driving to the shops to buy presents, sending the Christmas cards, cleaning the house in preparation for your guests…there are so many tasks to complete in the run up to Christmas that many of us don’t have the time to consider the impact of our festive carbon footprint.

But never fear - Ecover has come up with some simple tips on how to inject a little ‘green’ into your Christmas without breaking the bank or spoiling any of the festive fun!

1) Get some eco in your Christmas wardrobe – why not rock the office Christmas party eco-style this festive season? Visit http://www.britishfashioncouncil.co.uk/ for a list of eco fashion labels

2) Use the newly formulated Ecover Washing Powder or newly packaged Concentrated Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener - perfect for taking good care of your eco party dress and kind to the water system too

3) Buying a real tree? Visit the Forest Stewardship Council website to make sure your precious pine has been farmed sustainably – http://www.fsc-uk.org/

4) e-Christmas cards – why not try Facebook, Twitter or email rather than snail mail to send your seasons greetings?

5) Recycled wrapping paper is a really easy way to score ‘green’ points at Christmas and doesn’t cost the earth. Try the selection at http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com/

6) Banish those stains – red wine, gravy, cranberry sauce stains are rife on Christmas day. Remove them with ease Ecover’s Stain Remover – so effective it’s been awarded a Which? Best Buy

7) Turn off the fairy lights at times when you are out of the house or in bed – it’s both safe and energy efficient!

8) Treat your guests to some eco luxury – pop some Ecover Hand Wash in the bathroom and try Ecover Room Fragrance to keep your house smelling fresh

9) Travel together – try car sharing with friends and family or taking the bus to the shops to do your Christmas shopping

10) Once you’ve filled up on turkey, yorkshire puddings and brussel sprouts, wash the dishes with Ecover Washing Up Liquid – you can even use your grey water to feed the Christmas tree!

About Ecover:

· Ecover is effective - Ecover harnesses the power of nature to create highly effective and supremely ecological cleaning products.

· Ecover is sustainable - Ecover only uses sustainable plant-based and mineral ingredients. All ingredients are chosen to ensure Ecover’s products are as effective as possible whilst also achieving the lowest possible toxicity and the most rapid and complete biodegradability.

· Ecover is pioneering - Ecover continually strives to improve its product range and has spent seven years developing a new ecological surfactant for use in its hard surface cleaning products. This new Eco-Surfactant means the range cleans as well as – or better than - the UK’s leading conventional brands. The products are made with fully renewable plant-based ingredients and produced using a totally biochemical process.

· Ecover is a truly ecological company - Ecover operates from its world-famous ecological factories in Belgium and France. The company's guidelines for environmental criteria, the selection of ingredients and manufacturing processes are far stricter that those required by EU legislation. Ecover has been recognised by the United Nations Environment programme (UNEP) for their outstanding practical achievements for the protection and improvement of our environment.

· Ecover is closer than you think - Ecover’s ecological factories in France and Belgium are just 200 and 250 miles from London. This is approximately the same distance between Manchester and London, so although Ecover is not based in the UK, the transportation miles involved in distributing their products are comparable to those of UK based cleaning companies.

· Reuse, Reduce, Recycle - Ecover’s plastic bottles are made from polypropylene and polyethylene which are 100% recyclable. Both bottles and tops can be recycled together. Ecover offers a refill service through its health food store network which allows consumers to save money and plastic resources. Visit http://www.ecover.com/ to find out where your nearest refill station is.

· Ecover: Working with Water – Ecover’s partnership with WaterAid supports a project in Ethiopia, providing sustainable and ongoing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. For more information visit http://www.ecover.com/wateraid

  4. I love making Christmas greener. I started making my own cards, which are just brilliant in their awfulness! I just use whatever I have, might NOT be Christmassy! Also have been making my own presents. It's about the giving isn't it? Not so much the amount you spend, but the thought you put in.
