Public vote to decide who will be awarded funds of up to £20,000

As I told you (here) at the start of the summer, I'm proud to be a Nick Jr ambassador. This gave me the fabulous chance to interview Nick Jr. presenter Helena Dowling (here), who is one of the judges for the fabulous Help Dora Help Campaign, that I told you about here. (Keeping up ?!) Well, I'm back with an update and a chance to cast your vote and choose which of the nurseries or pre-schools will win. Go and have a look - there might even be one local to you.

Nick Jr. announces five shortlisted pre-schools and nurseries to make final stage of Help Dora Help campaign

Public vote to decide who will be awarded funds of up to £20,000

Nick Jr., Nickelodeon’s award-winning pre-school channel, today announces the five pre-schools and nurseries which have been shortlisted for the final of the nationwide Help Dora Help campaign. They will now have the opportunity to receive funding of up to £20,000 to benefit local children. Each finalist receives discovery and learning equipment, but the public decide who receives the award fund by voting online. From 1st October each nursery’s bid can be viewed at http://www.nickjr.co.uk/ where the public can cast their vote.

The award fund is part of the Help Dora Help initiative launched by Nick Jr. in May. Pre-schools and nurseries who registered for the free Help Dora Help Activity Pack (which included Dora the Explorer themed curriculum linked activity resources) were invited to apply for the Help Dora Help Award Fund.

The initiative, supported by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, received overwhelming interest with registrations from one in five UK pre-schools and nurseries. A judging panel selected the five finalists because of compelling reasons for how the award fund would be used and the creative artwork of the pre-schoolers that accompanied the submission. The shortlisted finalists are:

Alfriston Pre-School, East Sussex
Beaufort Hill Nursery, Gwent, Wales
Bradford Academy, Yorkshire
Hope Nursery School, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Overtown Community Nursery, Wisham, Scotland

In September each of the finalists will receive a visit from Dora the Explorer and have their award submission filmed for broadcast on Nick Jr. From 1st October you can view the shortlisted entries on http://www.nickjr.co.uk/  and vote for your favourite. The pre-school or nursery who receives the largest number of votes will receive the award fund of up to £20,000

Tina McCann, MD Nickelodeon UK, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by both the volume and quality of entries we received for the Help Dora Help Award Fund. The high standard of creativity and effort that children put into their submissions was quite inspirational. And clearly a lot of fun was had in the process. Sadly only five finalists could be selected, but we ask everyone to get involved and vote for their favourite.”

Jeremy Newton, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts added: “The standard of entries was exceptional and it was a tough task to select five from all the applications. We believe in the power of the arts to transform children’s lives; so it is great to see how the arts have acted as a catalyst for pre-schools to apply for this award fund, which could make a real difference to children’s lives.”

To view the entries and vote for your favourite visit http://www.nickjr.co.uk/ from 1st October. And if you’ve not already done so, you can download your FREE curriculum linked activity pack.
