Sunuva UV swimwear and beachwear review

Last year, we discovered the funky and functional kids' clothes and swimwear brand Sunuva when Juliette reviewed some of their UV-protective swimwear. (Click through to read that review.) We were delighted when they got back in touch with us to see if the Madhouse Mini-testers would like to choose an outfit each to review from this year's collection. If you're not aware of the brand, their clothes don't just look fab -  they are also made from the highest quality UPF 50+ fabric, blocking out more than 97% of the sun’s harmful rays, helping protect your kids from over-exposure to the sun. The British Skin Foundation, the UK’s leading researcher of skin diseases, has announced that it is to validate the brand, proving that it's not just a gimmick.

Pierre chose this vibrant blue long-sleeved rash shirt (£38) with a cute/scary shark design. Madhouse Daddy was a bit worried about a long-sleeved top being too hot for our holiday to Turkey this summer but it's made from a light, breathable, UPF 50+ fabric which has the added advantage of being machine washable and quick-drying.

This also has matching swim shorts (£37) with a fabulous shark design. They're really comfortable and have a drawstring waist (handy because they're made with a generous cut so they're slightly too big for Pierre) and a Velcro flap back pocket. They arrive just above the knee and could be worn in or out of the pool during the summer.

Juliette decided she wanted a bikini and opted for this blue and white Breton stripe halter-neck bikini (£37) which has a cute contrast red stripe trim and is finished with pretty ties and red beads. Juliette loves it and can't wait to wear it on holiday, posing by the pool ! It's well cut, being neither too tight nor too skimpy.

As it's a children's beachwear brand, I didn't think we'd find anything to fit Sophie. She may only be 12 (almost 13) but she's already taller than me and her feet are as big as Madhouse Daddy's ! - but I said we'd get her something and if it didn't fit, she could also give it to Juliette. She picked this ultra comfy, blue and white striped playsuit in super-soft jersey  (£39) and she was delighted when it fit her perfectly. (The write-up does say that this style offers a loose, relaxed fit so you should consider selecting a smaller size for petite shapes.) It will be perfect as a cover up for going to and from the poolside and Sophie has also said she'd like to wear it as pyjamas because it's so comfortable. It's made of 100% cotton and is machine washable.

The kids love the designs and funky colours and I love the fact that it offers UV protection, which is a huge advantage, whether you're staying in the UK or heading to hotter climes on holiday.

  1. UV swimwear?! What a fantastic idea! I love this idea so much! Thanks for linking up with #KidsCorner

  2. hi great review very interesting to read about clothing that protects from the sun so all you need to really do is protect the bits exposed x

  3. I like Pierre's choice. Lovely shade of blue. The clothing being sun protective is a great bonus for kids during holidays. As children do tend to like being outdoor and active. Whilst us adults like that to be done as safely as is possible.
