In recent years, colouring has become the latest buzzword in stress management, so I'm sure you'll be fighting your daughters to have a go at Carlton Kids' gorgeous new Colour Your Own Doll's House book !
It's actually a lovely book to work through together, for colouring, for reading and also for learning about life in Victorian Britain. We discover a typical and rather grand Victorian house at 51 Orchard Avenue, complete with servants for the complete Upstairs Downstairs/Downton Abbey feel.
We are introduced to a typical Victorian household - parents, children, pets and servants. I always thought that the Victorians wore nothing but black clothes, in honour of the Queen's mourning, but the colours suggested in the accompanying illustrations are much more cheerful and varied, which is good news if you want to give your felt tips or colouring pencils a good work out !
The intricate illustrations are absolutely packed with details to discover and colour. Each double page will keep children (or grown-ups !) busy for quite a while so it's a great value book, perfect for long journeys, wet weekends or school holidays.
There are lots of fascinating facts to learn about Victorian homes, which could be a great place to start for school projects. There is also an invitation to doodle and create your own Victorian house at the end of the book.
