I can already see you rolling your eyes and going yeah yeah, artificial sweeteners, tried them already and they always have a horrible aftertaste. Well, I would usually agree with you to a certain extent but I have to admit that Splenda is different.
Firstly, it was discovered by Tate & Lyle, who are experts in sugar, so they wouldn't put their reputation on the line by creating a dodgy sugar substitute ! Secondly, it is very similar to sugar but without so many calories (a teaspoon of Splenda contains 2 calories, compared to 20 calories in a teaspoon of sugar) - the people at Splenda say it's made from sugar, tastes like sugar, but it's not sugar.
What I absolutely love is its versatility - as well as coming in the usual little sweeteners that you can drop into your tea or coffee, it also comes in granulated form so you just can use a spoonful of Splenda to replace a spoonful of sugar on cereal or wherever you want. It's also heat-stable so you can use it for cooking and baking - perfect for making a cake for a loved one who's watching their waistline or who may have diabetes.
That's the brilliant thing about Splenda - it's safe for everyone. "Suitable for the whole family, including people with diabetes and those following a low-carb diet, as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle", they say. It's also OK for pregnant women, which is great news if you're a coke-fiend like me (coca cola, not cocaine !) and have to avoid the diet variety during pregnancy because of the potentially dangerous artificial sweeteners.
There is one more bit of good news. If you'd like to try some for yourself for the hefty price of zero pence, the lovely people at bzz agent are looking for ladies aged 18+ to trial it for them. You can sign up here.
