Plum Breadsticks

We've reviewed a variety of toddler snacks here at The Madhouse over the past few months, but this time, it was these Spelt Breadsticks from Plum on the testing hotseat. They are available in Tomato & Herb and Mild Pecorino Cheese flavours and we received a box of each to test.

Plum describe them as "authentic hand rolled spelt breadsticks made using the traditional Tuscan method passed from generation to generation and made with extra virgin olive oil" and even go on to say : "These breadsticks taste better than adult versions! "

Designed for babies aged from 12 months onwards, 20-month-Pierre was the first to give them a try.

First of all he looked a bit dubious and played with them, banging them on the highchair tray and rolling them around !

But once he got the idea of putting one in his mouth, he made a little "hmmmm" noise and munched his way through several of them !

They may be designed for babies (and they are really good for teething toddlers who want something to work their gums on) but that didn't stop big sisters Sophie, 9, and Juliette, 6, wanting a taste too. They loved them just as much as Pierre, which is hardly surprising when you look at the ingredients. Plum say : "Subtly tangy and fresh, the Tomato & Herb breadsticks are made with the finest tomatoes and complemented with the perfect combination of rosemary and oregano herbs, while the Mild Pecorino cheese breadsticks are made with the classic Italian Pecorino Romano cheese from Sardinia."

Each box contains three sealed sachets of breadsticks so they're great for popping in your handbag for fighting off toddler tantrums when out and about and they're surprisingly resilient, unlike some other snacks which end up smashed into a pile of crumbs in your bag. There are also plenty of breadsticks to go round, even with three peckish kids sharing them !

They're healthy, tasty, convenient and not messy - what more could you want from a toddler snack ?!

  1. i wonder why Spelt has become the new "trendy" ingredient. It's still no good for children with allergies like Ceoliac unless it's only a mild form..
