Picture Book Picnic Blog Tour - Children's Book Review : Lost in the Toy Museum

Today, the Picture Book Picnic Blog Tour (which I told you about here) is stopping off here at The Madhouse. I was sent a copy of this lovely new book from David Lucas to review.

***** Don't miss out on the chance to win two copies of this lovely book right here on my blog *****

You've probably heard of, or maybe even watched, the film Night At The Museum, starring (amongst others) Ben Stiller, Robin Williams and Dick Van Dyke, which told the story of a poor museum guard trying to keep control of a whole host of museum exhibits that come to life at night-time. Well, Lost In The Toy Museum (An Adventure) tells a similar tale ! When the lights go out, all the toys come to life and have a jolly old game of hide and seek.

I love the character of Bunting, the sensible and rather boring old toy cat, who lets his hair (or should that be fur ?!) down and learns to have fun as he gets caught up in the game of hide and seek. It's a great celebration of playtime and silliness and totally appeals to my inner 5-year-old !

I also love the illustrations by David Lucas, who was selected as one of The Big Picture campaign's Best New Illustrators in 2008. His drawings are full of detail and are brilliant for exploring with the kids as you read the story. Sophie and Juliette both loved pointing things out in the pictures, even after reading the book several times.

As it is set at night-time, it is the perfect book for bedtime and is such great fun to read that everyone is guaranteed to drift off to sleep with a smile on their face, probably desperately trying to keep an eye on their toys to see if they come to life in the middle of the night !
