Boots Soltan Kids and Soltan Baby Suncare review

With all the rain that's been pouring down across the country today, it's probably not the best day for testing sun cream ! But in a fortnight's time, we'll be soaking up the sun, making sandcastles on the beach and splashing in the pool on our family holiday to Turkey (in Antalya, home of magic mirrors and burning castles and Turkish men with very very big lips ! You'd better check out this blogpost here if you have no idea what I'm talking about !)

Well, Boots very kindly sent us a trio of their Soltan sun care products, perfect for keeping Sophie, Juliette and Pierre safe and sunburn-free so that they (and we) can concentrate on having fun. They sent us, from left to right, Soltan Baby Hypoallergenic Suncare Lotion, Soltan Kids Hypoallergenic Suncare Spray and Soltan Kids Moisturising Aftersun. As both the suncare products are factor 50 (the Kids one is factor 50 and the Baby one is 50+), they're ideal for exotic holidays.

The Kids Spray is really easy to apply because of its handy spray applicator, which both Sophie and Juliette preferto a classic cream. This does mean that it's quite runny so don't apply too much at once and give it fifteen minutes or so for the lotion to be absorbed by the skin before going out in the sun, even if this does mean you'll have impatient, whining kids jumping up and down on the spot and begging to be allowed to go to the pool ! It goes on white but doesn't leave any excessive greasiness or white residue on the skin. The packaging promises that it is "extra water resistant" although you should still reapply sun protection regularly (every couple of hours) if you're in the pool or the sea, to be on the safe side.

The Baby Sun Lotion is slightly thicker and needs to be squeezed out of the bottle and rubbed into the skin rather than sprayed on. It's paediatrician approved, hypoallergenic and water resistant, so it's perfect for the sensitive skin of your tiniest holidaymakers. Both the Kids and the Baby sun products have the same delicate fragrance which smell more like moisturiser than sun cream. Despite the writing on the back on the bottle saying "No perfume, no colour, no alcohol", there's a little sticker at the bottom saying "Contrary to Extra Benefits, this product contains hypoallergenic fragrance". It caused absolutely no reaction on Pierre's sensitive skin though.

The Kids Moisturising Aftersun, which promises to cool and soothe skin, also comes in a handy spray bottle, which is great if anyone has got any sore sunburnt bits, despite your best efforts, because you barely have to touch the skin to apply it. It's light and non-greasy and is rapidly absorbed by the skin. It contains Antioxidant Vitamin C, Allantoin and Chamomile to help soothe skin that's been exposed to the sun. It literally doesn't smell of anything though, which is a real shame as I love the summery, coconutty, tropical fragrance of most aftersun products - although this probably makes it more hypoallergenic for kids' sensitive skin.

All in all, it's a great range for kids and will definitely be packed in our holiday suitcase for Turkey.
