Confessions of a Beauty Addict !

I thought this made interesting reading when it popped into my inbox last week. I'm actually surprised it's only nine times a day, between those who spend half their day preening in the mirror and those who spend just as much time worriedly glancing at their reflection because they're having a fat/bad hair/huge pimple on the chin day ! What do you think ?!

CONFESSIONS OF A BEAUTY ADDICT
- British women think about how they look nine times a day -

With more than a third of British women (33 per cent) admitting that they would never leave the house without make up on, and one in five (21 per cent) admitting putting on their makeup is the most important part of their day, we really are a nation of beauty addicts.

The survey, commissioned by retailer QVC to celebrate its July Beauty Month, quizzed over 2,000 British women to reveal that, on average, women think about how they look nine times a day, with four per cent admitting that they think about how they look every half an hour.

In fact, instead of thinking of our loved ones, a third of British women (30 per cent) admit that their beauty regime is the last thing on their mind before they go to sleep and for one in seven British women (16 per cent), it is the first thing they think about in the morning.

One in seven Brits (7 per cent) admit to refreshing their appearance every two hours or more, with a quarter of Brits (23 per cent) admitting to reapplying their make up every two or three hours.

Going for a job interview topped the list of situations where women felt most stressed about their make up look, closely followed by going on a night out with friends and going on a date. Interestingly, over a third of women (31 per cent) revealed that they are more concerned with looking good for other women as opposed to impressing the opposite sex, perhaps because 65 per cent of British women believe they are judged by other women more than men.

Proving that most women really do turn into their mothers, one in five (19 per cent) women adopted their beauty regime directly from their mother’s and one in eight (13 per cent) have stuck with the same routine since. A further 17 per cent admit that they have never changed their beauty regime since they first started applying make up and beauty products.

Dr Linda Papadopoulos, Psychodermatologist, comments, ‘I believe that happy skin is healthy skin and how we feel is intrinsically linked to how we look. If you feel like you look your best then it gives you a much more positive outlook on life.’

Sue Leeson, Marketing Director of QVC comments, ‘This research proves what we have always suspected, that women love to look their best. At QVC we know that every woman is an individual and offer a whole range of products to make her look and feel great, as well as offer expert tips and advice to know what works best for her!’

Key Regional and Age Differences

· The younger generation definitely seem to be more image conscious with one in twelve (8 per cent) of under 25 year olds admitting that they think about how they look at least once an hour compared to only 1 per cent of over 55 year olds

· Nearly a third of women (28 per cent) from Yorkshire admit that putting make up on is the most important part of their daily routine, more than any other region in the UK

· Topping the list of regions in the UK, one in twenty women (5 per cent) from the North West of England admit to thinking about how they look at least once an hour

· Proving that priorities change as you grow older, a quarter of under 25s (25 per cent) reveal that putting their make up on and getting ready is the first thing they think about when they wake up in the morning, compared to one in eight (13 per cent) over 55 year olds

· A consistent 23 per cent of women from the North east have stuck with the same make up regime and beauty products since they first started applying make up
