A couple of foolproof ways to make money online

Now, I warn you now, I'm not talking about "get rich quick" schemes that promise to make you millionaires overnight and always sound too good to be true (and invariably are). I'm referring to far less impressive revenue generators but, as the saying goes, count the pennies and the pounds will count themselves - and at least they actually work !

First up is Music Magpie (http://www.musicmagpie.co.uk/).

Now, I instantly like this one because it lets you make money while you declutter, thereby killing two birds with one stone. It could also be a way for students to save/make money before they go off to university (particularly with the rise in fees ).

Basically, MusicMagpie will take your old DVDs, CDs and video games and will pay you for them. You simply scan the barcode of the item using a webcam and the site will calculate what you can get for each item. They’ve also just launched an iphone app which makes this even simpler for iphone owners.

It's a bit like a lazy version of ebay as you avoid all the hassle taking photos and doing the listings, there's no need to wait for auctions to finish plus you avoid the commission fees. (Although ebay is still a great way of making money for things in other categories, such as baby equipment you no longer need.)

Music Magpie allow you to send your items to them using freepost and, if you send over fifty items at once, they'll even arrange for a free courier service to come up and pick them up from your home at a convenient time. How's that for hassle-free ?

Another popular money-making site is cashback site Quidco (http://www.quidco.com/).

Essentially the site gets commission for recommending paying shoppers, and that commission goes to you. You can get cashback in two ways, either from registering your card on the website (and then whenever you use this card in certain retailers, you will get a percentage of what you spend credited back to you), or you can just visit this website before you do your internet shopping. There are 3,000 retailers already listed.

They also do vouchers and exclusive offers too – and it’s totally free to sign up. You won't get a huge amount for each offer, but it all adds up!

Let me know if you have other favourite money-making sites. (Ones that really work please so spammers, stay away !)

  7. I've used Quidco for a few years now and earned quite a decent amount of casback from them.
I also use a survey site - Valued Opinions - and earned about £60 last year.
