THE UK’S FAVOURITE POSTIE, POSTMAN PAT® CELEBRATES HIS 30TH BIRTHDAY WITH HIS MOVIE ANNOUNCEMENT

LONDON, UK (September 16, 2011) : It’s official! Classic Media is delighted to wish a happy birthday to the nation’s favourite postie, Postman Pat, and invite fans to join in the party. First shown on BBC One in 1981, Postman Pat has delighted generations of audiences for three decades to become the longest-running animated children’s series on the BBC. Today marks 30 years of delivery adventures, and with a new series for the BBC and today’s announcement of his first-ever movie coming in 2013, Postman Pat is sure to remain an iconic family favourite for years to come.

Working with the legendary animator and director Ivor Wood (The Herbs, Paddington, The Wombles), the original TV series writer, John Cunliffe, used his memories of life in Kendal, Cumbria as inspiration for the idyllic world of Greendale and its friendly local postman.

Today, Postman Pat, together with his trusty sidekick Jess the black and white cat, delivers more action-packed fun than ever. Recently promoted to Head of the Special Delivery Service and with an exciting fleet of new vehicles, Pat delivers anything, anytime, anywhere! This month, Postman Pat is celebrating his 30th birthday in style with activities for the whole family.

To mark the occasion, Vue Cinemas will hold Postman Pat birthday screenings over the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September. With 69 Vue Cinemas across the UK, visit http://www.myvue.com/  to see where you can join the celebration.

On the 17th and 18th September, Postman Pat will be taking a break from delivering letters and parcels to celebrate his birthday at the Postman Pat Village at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park, http://www.longleat.co.uk/ . Visitors can meet Pat and Jess and join in the birthday fun!

In honour of the birthday, there are several product introductions. Out this week, the “Happy Birthday Pat’” DVD (Universal) features more than 3+ hours of adventures plus a free CD with 15 music tracks to sing-a-long with. A new book Postman Pat: “The Surprise Party” builds on Egmont‟s range of 10-Minute Tales. A new Postman Pat App from P2 Games is now available on iPhone and iPad. The App features 8 action-packed games including ‘Helicopter Game’, ‘Post Box Run‟ and the ‘Train Game’ plus a special bonus game to make pictures and fix puzzles from stamps collected during game-play. In honour of the 30th birthday celebration, today it was announced that Pat’s first-ever feature film, Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re The One will be coming to cinemas Spring 2013. The renowned voice cast is led by actor Stephen Mangan (Episodes, Green Wing, Dirk Gently) as Postman Pat. Academy Award® and BAFTA® Award Winner Jim Broadbent (Iris, Moulin Rouge!), Rupert Grint, who achieved international fame as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series, and David Tennant (Doctor Who, Harry Potter) will join Stephen in bringing the world of Postman Pat to life on the big screen.
