Hedrin Treat & Go Mousse head lice treatment review

Well, the kids have gone back to school once again and, as well as bringing home bag loads of homework and forms to fill in from the teachers, I've been dreading them bringing back little unwanted visitors in their hair too. I was sent a pack of Hedrin Treat & Go head lice treatment to review back at the start of the summer and I was expecting to get testing it around about now but, so far so good, I haven't needed to use it yet.

I know a lot of you haven't been so lucky though so yesterday I shared some top tips on how to avoid and get rid of nits and headlice (that you can see right here). I also want to tell you about the Hedrin Treat & Go, even if I haven't had a chance to try it out, because it's being hailed as a "new ‘fuss-free’ treatment that tackles lice head on" and "a revolutionary water-based head lice treatment that has been specially developed with children in mind".

According to the manufacturers, "Hedrin Treat & Go is a breakthrough in the battle against head lice as it offers to make treatment an easier and less stressful experience for the parent and the child. The light and non-oily formula spreads quickly and easily on the hair and is easily dried so there is no need to wash it out straight away. The treatment can then be left on during the day or overnight, with no need for combing and then simply and easily rinsed out when convenient, leaving no residue on the hair." As I remember the disgusting, evil-smelling, oily treatments that existed when I was a child and that you had to keep on your hair overnight, the discreet water-based formula that dries out sounds like a brilliant innovation to me.

It works using Activdiol® technology (octanediol) which strips away the waxy cuticle on the louse, causing it to dehydrate. It sounds a bit like throwing salt on slugs which is a disgusting but nevertheless efficient technique. This physical action also prevents head lice from developing a resistance, which is a common problem associated with traditional pesticide treatments. Hedrin say that the product was tested by parents and received a resounding thumbs up – all 23 respondents said they would definitely use the product again.

Christine Brown, community nurse and head lice specialist, said: “Head lice can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for parents. When choosing a product, parents are looking for reassurance that the product they choose will be effective, hassle-free and not daunting to use. Hedrin Treat & Go offers a convenient, easy to apply and easy to wash out solution, allowing parents to treat the problem effectively with no fuss.”

Priced from £5.49 for 50ml, Hedrin Treat & Go is available from Boots, pharmacies and leading retailers nationwide. It is skin friendly and contains no known asthma triggers. Visit http://www.hedrin.co.uk/  for further information.

  1. Well if the treatment I used hasn't worked then I may give this one a go. The worst is I comb out and check thoroughly, yet she comes home from school crawling grrrr. I just wish the other parents realised everyone with hair needs checking not just the girls

  2. This looks much better than the spray in version, so greasy. I do think we need to bring back the 'nit nurses'
