Matt Baker Reveals Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge Online Route Map

The One Show's Matt Baker called for Britain to get behind him today as BBC Children in Need launched the online route map for his arduous Rickshaw Challenge. The challenge will see Matt attempt to pedal a rickshaw for 484 miles from Edinburgh Castle Esplanade on Friday 11 November, picking up passengers along the way to finish live eight days later on The One Show's BBC Children in Need special on Friday 18 November on BBC One.

The route map will be hosted at www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey and will engage the public in this challenge by allowing them to follow Matt as he is en route, and online. Viewers will be able to view the interactive map and zoom in to find out Matt's exact location. The map uses an innovative GPS tracker which runs from a Viewranger phone app that will follow Matt and give live updates on his progress.

The map and the site will also post a new video clip of Matt's journey each day, as well as daily images and information on Matt's journey. Matt will also write a daily blog about his journey from each location. Twitter updates from Matt and BBC Children in Need can be followed via @BBCCiN and @bakermattbaker and conversation streams can be followed with hashtag #CiNrickshaw.

Matt said: "Only a day to go and I really need Britain to get behind me on this. Please go online to find me and check my progress, get out there and cheer me on. It's going to be tough but it will be the cause and the public support that will keep me going! As a father, I can't help but make comparisons to the children supported by Children in Need. As I've found, the charity brings the whole nation together and even in these difficult financial times, the British Public always comes together to support children who need it most. I can't wait to get started!"

To give £5, text "MATT" to 70705. Texts cost £5 plus one standard rate message and £5 will go to BBC Children in Need. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey for full terms and conditions. You must be over 16 and ask the bill payer's permission.

- Throughout the challenge, Matt will be picking up passengers along the way. Matt will be carrying a passenger at all times when it is possible to do so. The only times it may not be possible would be on dangerously steep downhills, where the passenger is at risk of falling out and steep uphills, when it will be a physical risk for Matt to over-exert himself, at which point the passenger would get out of the rickshaw and help Matt push it uphill.

- BBC Children in Need supports projects working with disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. They currently support around 2,500 projects that are working with children facing a range of disadvantages for example, poverty and deprivation, disabled young people and children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. This year's appeal will be on Friday 18 November.

- The One Show will go live to Hawick on Friday 11 November, the first stop in Matt's Rickshaw Challenge. The programme will greet him live on air every weeknight as Matt crosses the finishing line at each location.

Matt will be pulling along the weight equivalent of 25 stone and cycle his rickshaw for up to ten hours each day, burning up to 9000 calories daily.

- BBC Children in Need will also release a special The One Show layer on the 'Digital Cake app' on Pudsey Bear's Official Facebook Page via http://gdlnk.com/46k , during Matt's 484 mile journey. It is the first time a charity has received donations directly through Facebook. BBC Children in Need aim to build the biggest 'Digital Cake' ever by asking people to contribute £1, £5, £10 or £20 to add their own decorations, filling, icing or whole layers to the cake. They will also release exclusive content through other special layers upon targets being reached.
