MARLEY & ME: THE PUPPY YEARS DVD review

We always watch a lot more DVDs together as a family when the weather turns colder because the girls no longer want to go outside so much to ride their bikes or run around and it's just too chilly to go for long walks. When we received a copy of Marley & Me : The Puppy Years, I just knew that it would be a big hit with the kids, while keeping the adults happy too.

We had all gone together to watch the original Marley & Me, starring Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson, at the cinema and everyone had enjoyed it, even though I felt it was aimed more at grown-ups as at kids. But this film instantly appealed to all the Madhouse mini testers, even 2-year-old Pierre.

Besides having the awww-factor of cute puppies, this prequel to the original Marley & Me film has the huge added bonus of having a talking dog - yes, Marley has found his voice in this version, much to the absolute delight of the kids !

The official blurb for the film says : "
Filmed against the backdrop of beautiful Vancouver, mischievous Marley and his dogsitter Bodi Grogan, played by Travis Turner (Supernatural, Fairly Legal), wreak havoc during the summer holidays while Brodi is staying with his pedantic grandfather Fred (Donnelly Rhodes).

Bodi has always wanted a dog of his own and during the summer, to prove to his mother (Chelah Horsdal) that he is ready for the responsibility, he enters Marley in the "Ultimate Puppy Championship," along with the neighbour’s Labradors Fuchsia and Moose.

After weeks of training and hard work, Marley and his team the “Ragga Rascals” are ready for the competition. This fearless threesome come up against strong competitors when they face the other puppy teams; a group of pugs, a gang of Australian cattle dogs and the intimidating trio of miniature Doberman pinschers. Will Bodi and Marley’s efforts pay off and will Bodi prove to his mother that he is ready to finally have his own puppy?"

It's a great family movie to snuggle up under a blanket and watch together during the holidays.

  3. This felt more like an Air Buddies film than a Marley & Me prequel.
