THE SOOTY CHRISTMAS SHOW hits the West End

Awww talk about a blast from the past ! I used to love watching Sooty & Sweep as a kid, them my sister (who is 18 years younger than me) was obsessed with them and had the DVDs (or videos as it was still was back then !) playing non-stop. I still remember the Spaghetti Carba-carba-cabbage episode with the song "Here's my advice which we give on the quiet, Always follow a balanced diet, Always try to eat in moderation" ! If you fancy a bit of festive nostalgia, take your kids along and see if they enjoy it as much as you !

“A real treat for new Sooty fans and a dose of nostalgia for the parents” THE STAGE

“ Richard Cadell is as close to a Corbett as you will ever get – Sooty is in - or should I say on – the right hands”– MATTHEW CORBETT

The nation’s favourite magical teddy bear returns to The West End this Christmas, to take centre stage in a charming winter treat packed full of giggles. The all new Sooty Christmas Show, featuring TV host Richard Cadell and the inexhaustible trio of Sooty, Sweep and Soo, starts on December 13th at the Garrick Theatre in London.

The show, which is Sooty’s first in 13 years, will also feature the world's greatest ringmaster, Norman Barrett and his performing budgies, alongside Father Christmas and Harry the Robot. Iconic Sooty Show characters Butch the bull dog and Ramsbottom the snake-both will also be joining the ensemble, as Carol singers.
The show opens as Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Richard are getting ready for their Christmas Party. Sooty is having a few problems rehearsing his magic show, while Sweep’s Christmas cake is a recipe for disaster. Poor little Soo just can’t decide which dress to wear. Luckily Uncle Norman drops by to lend a hand assisted by his amazing troupe of performing budgies! Plus Father Christmas flies in to deliver a present for every child in the theatre to take home.

Sooty was originally devised by Harry Corbett who bought the puppet as a present for his son, Matthew Corbett whilst on holiday in Blackpool in 1948. Four years later (1952) Sooty appeared on our screens in 1952 and has been a firm favourite with children and adults ever since.

The original Sooty theatre show, which ran during the 70s and 80s, was hosted by Harry Corbett and last appeared in the West End in 1998. On its return this festive favourite is guaranteed to delight Sooty fans of all ages.

Sooty’s current right hand man Richard Cadell states; “The Sooty theatre show was an institution during the 70s / 80s and we are hoping that the children of those eras will bring their children along to enjoy the next instalment of Sooty in the West End.”
