Children's Book Review : Big Book of My World – Kali Stileman

The front cover promises that this book contains “all a toddler needs for early learning fun” and it does indeed offer a whole host of learning and observing activities, which will allow you to discover numbers, colours, shapes, animals, vehicles and multitudes of vocabulary with your little learner. The pages are packed with brightly-coloured images and fun thing to look at and point at to help improve logic and language skills.

But it's not just reserved for toddlers as some of the activities go slightly further, being more suited to those in their first year or so of school. For example, you can encourage your child not just to look at and read the names of the different geometrical shapes, but also to find them in the double page picture. The final pages also present activities, including matching words and pictures, finding the odd one out or doing a spot the difference. Younger children can get involved in the activities too, using the “can you make the noises ?” page full of animals, which is great for a giggle !

It's a lovely big hard-backed book with thick, sturdy pages which will put up with a lot of page-turning, which is just as well as I can see us coming back to this book over and over again, for observing then reading practice. Pierre took it with him to his childminder's yesterday and she commented on how brilliant she found it when I picked him up, saying that they'd been reading it together all day long and having great fun !

  2. This book looks lovely and perfect for a toddler especially as its colourful and the pages are thick and sturdy. Books are so important in a childs life and i was shocked to read that new research shows that 1 in 3 children do not own a book. After reading your review i will be buying this for my daughter to add to her book collection.

  4. I have this book for my little one but have recently taken it into school and lent it to my friend who is one of the nursery teachers! Think it is a little better for slightly older toddlers :)
