You can't have missed the fact that I read a lot of books and review them all on here on my blog. My favourite genres are crime fiction and chicklit, but I will read pretty much everything. If someone is kind enough to send me through a review copy, I will review it and give my honest opinion, and some of my absolute fave all-time reads have been books that I never would have picked out myself ! When I saw a blogpost (here) about the British Books Challenge 2012, I didn't hesitate for a second before signing up.
Well, here is the explanation from The Overflowing Library, who is hosting the challenge :
"The BBC is a reading challenge where bloggers sign up to read books by British writers throughout 2012 which was first hosted in 2011 by www.thebookette.co.uk
The books can be in print or out. Old or new titles. They can be from any genre and for any age. My blog is obviously focused on YA literature but you are welcome to read adult or children's novels if you wish.
If you sign up for the Challenge you will be aiming to read at least 12 books by British Authors (which works out to one a month). For every book you review each month you will get an entry into the draw to win a monthly prize pack. Therefore the more you read the more entries you will rack up.
Towards the end of the year I hope to do some kind of special prize draw for those who have gone to the most effort over the year managing to read 50 or more British Books."

ReplyDeleteIf you like crime and chick lit have you ever read the J.D. Robb 'in death' series? It's set about 50 years in the future but don't let that put you off, it's not sci-fi. The books are brilliant, they revolve around a New York murder cop and the characters and stories are great.
There are around 30 books in the series now and I absolutely love them. I've got them all in print and on my e-reader too.
It's rare I find a book that bores me but I was on holiday in January and had done something odd with my reader so it hadn't downloaded all the books I'd intended to take with me. So I decided to read Gullivers Travels from the 'free classics' books that come with the reader. I'd never read it and always meant to.
I can't tell you how bored I was (yawn) but I kept going to the end because once I've started a book, even if I'm not particularly enjoying it, I always want to get to the end to find out how the story is wrapped up.
Ooh I'll definitely have to look out for the crime series, I'd never heard of that one. Thanks for the suggestion :)
