My Clippy - Bags of Style review

Here at The Madhouse, we've already reviewed several crafts kits from Flair - the wonderfully named Zubber Pencil Topper Maker (here), Charmies Magic Beader (here) and the Hello Kitty Cool Cardz Design Studio (here) - and each time, they have managed to crawl right inside the minds of tween girls to create the ultimate girlie crafts kit that makes them squeal with delight ! When the opportunity came up to review the My Clippy Bags of Style kit, we therefore jumped at the chance.

As soon as 10-year-old Sophie laid eyes on the box, she got all excited because it seemed to be a mood board of all her favourite things - Kimi Doll-style characters, cute animals and lots of purple ! Time to investigate the contents.

Well, we were all very impressed with the wide array of crafty bits and pieces in the box. You get :

1 Bag with a detachable strap (which can be used as a pencil case or make up bag without the strap)
10 My Clippy cards
6 double-sided craft papers
1 embosser tool with 2 templates
2 full colour stencils with push out shapes
1 mini workstation
Instruction sheet

The basic idea behind the kit actually reminded me quite a lot of the Hello Kitty Cool Cardz Design Studio that I mentioned earlier. Sophie had had an absolute ball personalising and creating the little laminated cards in that but wasn't quite sure what to do with them, once she'd handed them out to her friends and favourite relatives. The My Clippy Bags of Style kit actually gave her the perfect support for showing off her handiwork.

The transparent plastic bag/pencil case has three pockets, allowing you to slide in the cards you've created using all the contents of the kit. You can mix and match the pretty papers and the push-out shapes (it would have been good to throw a glue stick in with the rest of the craft supplies) and add funky 3D effects with the nifty embossing tool. But the really fun part is running around the house to find all those personal knick-knacks and souvenirs that mean something special to you - ticket stubs from fab days out, photos of your best friend, a postcard of where you went on holiday, stickers, little messages from your friends, a photo of your current tween-heart throb.... Sophie just couldn't decide what to put in there, so the great news is, you can take them out and swap them over as often as you want. (Several times a day at the moment !) It's a bit like a portable, public scrapbook that you can show off to your friends.

Sophie absolutely loved the kit because it was so much fun to make. As a parent, I love the way it inspires creativity and doesn't require any more outlay on expensive refills becuse you can use anything from the craftsbox or magazines/stickers, etc to reinvent and renew the look of your bag however often you like. It's great to have something really useful at the end too - Sophie has used it to replace her school pencil case and has been telling me how impressed all her schoolfriends have been by it !
