Pets Corner Symply dog food

When Pets Corner asked us if we'd like to trial their Symply dog food with Vicky and Didou, I have to admit I'd never heard of them so I went off to their website to investigate. I learnt that they are a family-run company who have been in the business since 1968, with a commitment to the environment, animal welfare and providing their customers with the best possible value. What's not to like ? I replied with a woof - that's a yes - from both the Madhouse canine-testers.

A little while later, we received 2 huge bags of Symply dog food. The first problem was working out where to store it because, at 12kg, it's the size of a big sack of potatoes. It wouldn't fit in the usual spot under the sink so we had to make a quick space in our cupboard under the stairs.

I poured some out into the dogs' bowl and have to say, even as a human, it smelt nice. Don't worry, I didn't have a nibble but it actually smelt pleasant and meaty, unlike some brands which stink, even if the dogs seem to like them. I wasn't being mean with the rations by the way, this is what was left when they'd finished eating - I couldn't get anywhere near the bowl until then !

Didou instantly appeared when I put the bowl down and got stuck in.

But Mum Vicky wasn't going to miss out and soon pushed her way in too ! (They used to have a bowl each but always ate out of the same one so now they share one !) They seemed to really like it, although to be honest, they seem to eat pretty much anything !

One thing we have noticed is that - and I apologise if you're eating your tea ! - they seem to be pooing a lot less and their poo seems a lot more regular (ie less runny) and less stinky. Vicky has also stopped her habit of eating grass to make herself sick, which she had a phase of doing.

Reading the description on the website, this makes perfect sense as they say it is :
  • High quality protein (26% dried turkey)
  • Optimal levels of omega 3 & 6
  • all natural ingredients so less likely to cause food intolerances
  • Limited ingredients with a fixed formula
  • Beneficial for sensitive stomachs
They say  : "Proudly made in the UK and containing only the finest, 100% natural ingredients, Symply is the healthiest pet food on the market today. With no artificial colourings, flavours or preservatives and a high meat concentrate that your dogs and cats will love, Symply offers pet owners a way to give their companions a nutritional meal for a fair price."

A 12kg bag costs £42.99 but you can get two bags for £83.99 - if you can find somewhere to store them ! It's not cheap but it certainly does seem to be better for them than their usual food.

There are 67 Pets Corner stores across the UK (see the store finder here) or you can buy online.

  3. I'm not trying hard to sell anything at all ! I'm just giving my honest opinion of a product that we were sent to review. If you look through my other reviews, you'll see that I give criticism when a product doesn't live up to expectations. I can't comment on the pet shops as this was delivered. What didn't you like about the food ?

  4. Symply is a good food, second in the top ten in the UK. But its rice count is still high, equaling the meat content. However, soon they're coming out with a grain-free (so no rice) food.
For now my dogs are on the salmon & potato, but I look forward to giving their next lot a go. I think they're naming it "Garaman" or something along those lines. Why, I don't know.

  5. Our fifteen and a half years old dog is on her third bag of the Symply Light/Senior and she took to it very quickly and loves it.
I have no hesitation in recommending it and I even tried it myself. It's nice and crunchy with a mild flavour of something savoury but not salty.

  7. According to PetCareRx, Proteins, lipids, carbs, vitamins, and minerals all belong in a balanced diet. Water is also necessary for living on a daily basis. With the fundamental ingredients broken down, this may appear to be very straightforward and simple, but understanding how each nutrient is used in a dog's body, comprehending the processes, and being aware of the amount of each nutrient required for a healthy dog at all life phases is highly complicated.
