Angela Langford “Naturally … For You” review

I love discovering and telling you here on the blog all about new products that would have passed by under the radar. When the opportunity came up to try out some products from Angela Langford, I was intrigued as it's a beauty brand I'd never heard of. I had a look through the products available on the website and decided that Perfect Pores sounded best suited to my skin care needs, as I have some enlarged pores around my nose.

When the postman delivered a gorgeous package, beautifully presented in a pink organza drawstring bag, I was suitably wowed. As well as the product that I had selected, I received a selection of trial-sized samples of other products and a muslin cleansing cloth, beautifully tied up in a pink ribbon. I've said this before but I always think that companies that go the extra mile when packaging up their review samples, putting in some extra effort to make it all look pretty and special, even when they know that these products will be sent out for free, show that they really care about their customers and give 100% to ensure customer satisfaction.

I've just had a lovely pamper session (in the bathroom while the kids were in the bath - multi-tasking mum !) to try out the whole range of products. First up was the Clean Sweep Luxury Cleansing Balm.

The website explains : "Clean Sweep is a luxurious home made natural and organic cleansing balm that is gentle enough for sensitive skins, It will remove daily dirt, grime, make-up, even waterproof mascara. Shea Butter, Sweet Almond & Apricot Kernel Oils will leave your skin feeling silky soft & smooth. Essential oils of Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Lemon & Cypress -  sooth, purify & brighten the skin." I was a bit put off by the texture to begin with, because it looks like a cross between Vaseline and lip balm so I thought it would feel horribly greasy on my skin. However, I needn't have worried. Massaging it into my skin felt really nourishing and calming and removing all traces of the balm with the damp cleansing cloth was simple, leaving my skin feel really nicely hydrated. It's very rich so it's something I'd use once a week rather than every day, but I would imagine this would be fabulous after spending a day in the sun.

Next up was Scrub Up, described as "ideal for skin that is clogged, dull and frankly in need of a wake-up call". The website explains : "Jojoba Oil unclogs pores and lifts away dirt and grime leaving your skin clean and pure. Cypress Water helps clean & tighten pores whilst Neroli Water is calming. With regular use, Rose Petals can help rid the skin of ugly blackheads. AHA, Papaya Extract & Jojoba Peeling grains help lift away dead, dull cells leaving your skin looking cleaner, brighter & radiant." This is absolutely gorgeous stuff ! It goes on like a moisturiser but when you rub it in, you can feel the exfoliating grains really getting in there and sloughing off the dead skin cells, while not being at all abrasive. Afterwards, my skin feel totally refreshed and deep cleansed but not at all red and tingly, as it does after using some exfoliating scrubs.

The final sample I tried was Balanced & Beautiful, a Kiwi & Rosehip Face Oil. The website description says : "Many people with oily & combination skin worry that face oils will just make their skin even greasier  - but this isn’t necessarily true.  As long as you use the right oils, these treatments can actually balance your skin and return it to a more “normal” state. Balanced & Beautiful has been especially formulated to do just that – with regular use you will find your skin becomes balanced & pores are refined. You will be left with radiant & healthy looking skin. Follow with…Nothing! Using a face oil is the end of your daily or nightly skin care routine." Hmm. Well, I wasn't overly convinced by this one because I don't like face oils in general, finding them too greasy. It is certainly moisturising and soothing but I found it too greasy. I couldn't bring myself to put this on and go straight to bed, as they suggest. I prefer applying it to my face half an hour before I have a shower so that I can wash off the oily residue, while benefitting from the rich nourishment that leaves my skin feeling soft and deeply moisturised.

The full-sized product that I had been sent was Perfect Pores. The blurb says : "This anti-ageing, plumping & pore-perfecting specialist serum is your secret weapon for repelling wrinkles, purifying pores & balancing your skin. Perfect Pores is packed full of active ingredients that will help improve the appearance of your skin, diminish the appearance of open pores and protect your skin from nasty elements that can cause wrinkles."

Texture-wise, it's slightly gloopy and reminds me of face serums that I've used in the past. It is light enough to be quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving it soft and healthy-looking. I'd definitely use it in place of my anti-ageing wrinkle cream because it seems to plump up my skin just as well, reducing the appearance of fine lines. I can't say I've actually noticed any difference in the size of my pores but maybe I haven't been using it for long enough.

But it's not just the products that I was impressed with. I also love the ethics behind the company. Angela Langford explains : "I always use high quality natural and, where possible, organic ingredients. I use no parabens, no petrochemicals, no synthetic fragrances, colours or other skin nasties. My natural skin care products are tested on my friends, my family and myself – never on animals. All my products are lovingly made by hand in Somerset, England in small batches" What's not to like ?!
