Sacla' Italian Tomato Sauce Fridge Pack review

As you may remember, yesterday I told you about the new Sacla' pasta that we had for lunch and promised that I'd tell you about another new Sacla' product that we were sent to review alongside it. Well, that product is the new fridge pack of Italian Tomato Sauce. You can't really get the scale of it in the picture but it's a whopping 950ml which is a lot of sauce - enough for 10 servings, but the good news is that you can keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

The sauce is made with an authentic "soffritto" base, with carrots and celery sautéed in extra virgin olive oil and ripe, juicy Italian tomatoes. The label suggests you use it as a simple pasta base, a pizza topping, a base for a casserole or a finishing flourish for fish. We also used ours for knocking up a yummy and super quick Chicken Parmesan (which always reminds me of our trip to the States, which is where I first discovered it !).

The sauce has a lovely vibrant red colour and a nice tomatoey flavour, although it's a bit bland to be used on its own. It's designed to be used as a sauce base for you to add your own ingredients to, so that's what I did.

I threw together some minced beef, onions, mushrooms, red pepper and carrots ...

... and the addition of half a tub of the Sacla' sauce was all that was needed to create a very fast but lovely bolognese sauce.

If you need some inspiration for ways of using up the leftover sauce, Sacla' have loads of ideas on their website but it's so versatile, it would go with most things :

CLASSIC COD
Pan fry a thick cod fillet until crisp and golden and serve on a delicious pool of hot Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce.

PASTA AS YOU LIKE IT
Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce is a great starting point for your favourite pasta sauce - heat some in a pan and customise to your family’s content. The same goes for Pizza…

PROPER BRUSCHETTA
Toast ciabatta, swipe with garlic and anoint with a trickle of extra virgin olive oil and a spoonful of Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce for a brilliant bruschetta moment.

ITALIAN CHICKEN
Pan-fry mini chicken fillets in olive oil until golden, cover with Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce and shower with freshly chopped herbs - that’s supper done and dusted.

TOMATO SALSA
Combine Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce with small chopped red onion, green chilli and coriander leaves and give it a zip with a squeeze of lime juice. Perfect with grilled fish and chicken, garlicky fried prawns, earthy lentils, quesadillas, tacos and alongside guacamole.

TOMATO TART
Cut ready-rolled puff pastry into squares. Spread with Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce, scatter with cherry tomato halves, sprinkle with Parmesan and bake in a scorching hot oven until crisp and golden.

DUNKING DIP
Add finely chopped red chilli and a few shakes of hot chilli sauce to Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce and dive in - with potato chips, tortilla chips, whatever takes your fancy…

STICKY SAUSAGES
Brown your favourite sausages until good and sticky, add some Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce, a jar of roasted peppers and any fresh herbs you have to hand. Let it all cook down a bit and serve - with mash, pasta, rice or vegetables, whatever takes your fancy!

MOULES IN MINUTES
Warm some Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce and crushed garlic in a pan, slosh in some wine (any colour!), throw in cleaned mussels in their shells and cook ‘til they open. A sprinkle of parsley, a wedge of crusty bread and you’re ready to go!

MARBLED MASH
Warm Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce and swirl into creamy mash, scatter with thinly sliced spring onions or chives and serve with sticky sauces and ribs - marvellously moreish!

SIMPLE, FILLING SALAD
Nutty bulgar wheat, flecks of chopped parsley, crumbled feta, spring onions, good olive oil, lemon juice and lashings of Sacla’ Italian Tomato Sauce - a great salad for scooping up with Cos lettuce leaves.

It's a great fridge standby for when you need to throw something together in a rush.
