The Madhouse Mini-testers were absolutely over the moon when an unexpected guest put in an appearance when we went to the park earlier in the week - a hedgehog, the first one they've ever seen in real life. He was really tame too, walking all over the place in between the flower beds !
Pierre was totally intrigued !
I'd never realised quite how fast they can run !
I've been meaning to join in with the Country Kids from Coombe Mill link-up for ages so this is the perfect post. Head on over by clicking on the badge below to check out the weekly entries showing kids getting out and about in the fresh air and having fun.
Oh you are so lucky! I never see hedgehogs. Although I live in a rural area, the only time I see hedgehogs, foxes or badgers is dead at the side of the road :-( However I am lucky with the pond that I made in the garden having newts in and this year the first frogs have arrived!
ReplyDeleteIt's the first one I've seen since I was a kid and they used to go through my parents' garden !
DeleteLike you I have not seen a hedgehog since I was a child and my Mum would leave a saucer of milk and bread out for them! I had quite forgotten the poor hedgehog in our country side, thank you for the reminder and for sharing such lovely photos, amazing that you all had such a close look!
ReplyDeleteExactly the same - my dad used to put his gardening gloves on and bring it in the house for a saucer of bread and milk ... until he realised it was full of fleas !! lol
DeleteWhat a lot of fun :) I haven't seen a hedgehog since I was little. Lovely photos
ReplyDeleteHow lovely, what a great treat for you all to see. I love taking the kids out to search for wildlife and they always enjoy it even if we don't see anything much. We have had a hedgehog in our garden before and try to keep special areas for wildlife but haven't had a hedgehog for a while.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is, the kids have been looking for it every time we go to the park - I bet we'll never see another one again !!
DeleteWow! I have never seen one in the daylight! We were round my parents the other week and saw one trying to sneak in the conservatory doors, it was about 10pm though! Shame as Chester would of loved to of seen it!
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful :)

Amazing photos, thanks for linking up to Closer to Nature. I love hedgehogs, they're such beautiful creatures and the ones round here are very timid so you were super lucky to get so close!
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough, just this week, we came across another hedgehog (or maybe it was the same one?) in a different park that was surrounded by a group of kids prodding it and looking decidedly poorly. I put it in a box and dropped it off at the vet's but I'm not sure it was going to survive :(
DeleteI love that photo of him bending down to examine it, so curious!
ReplyDeletePopping over from Closer to Nature
I too am popping over from Closer to Nature!
ReplyDeleteCute hedgehog! I haven't seen any for ages, I heard somewhere they are close to becoming endangered so you were super lucky - what a discovery!
Oh my goodness! I'd have been so excited if I'd have found a hedgehog. I've not seen one for years (apart from squashed on the road :( )and it would be so lovely for the boys.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting such uplifting photos!
aww thank you for such a lovely comment, glad you enjoyed them :)
Deletewhat a brilliant set of photos, your not suppose to feed hedgehogs bread and milk they are meant to be fed dog or cat meat. I have used 2 hedgehog pics this autumn one in day time one a few night ago for my 366. a rather large one walks through the back every night just after 10pm, and a smaller one walks out the front about 10.30. kids look fascinated and no wonder if they not seen one before
ReplyDeleteI love hedgehogs and we do see them around here from time to time although I have never had one actually on the smallholding. Not sure what the cats or dogs would think of them!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of one of my favourite jokes: "Hedgehogs, why can't the just share?!"
Many thanks for joining in with #AnimalTales where we have had 2 hedgehog links this week!
How lovely! Would love a hedgehog in the gardne.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely - looks like Hedgehogs might still be out there, I wish our Prickles would come back #Animal Tales
