Revell X-ray Dog Anatomy Model review

When the chance came up to review an X-ray anatomy kit from Revell, I wasn't quite sure what Sophie would make of it. She's very curious about animals, science and just about everything else you can think of (and many other things you wouldn't !) but would she find it too icky seeing inside her favourite animal? Well, I needn't have worried - she loved it !

The dog comes disassembled and the first thing you have to do is remove all its organs and bones from the box - ewww ! Be careful, a couple of them are transparent and almost got thrown away with the packaging !

The A4-sized instruction manual (which comes in a variety of languages so you can practise your German, Spanish and French at the same time as your biology !) guides you through how to put it all back together, so it's a bit like a cross between a construction kit and a jigsaw puzzle.

The guide also explains what each organ is and how they all fit together.

It also gives you some more general information about dog anatomy, and Sophie was totally absorbed, reading it from cover to cover before she got started !

She had no trouble at all putting all the different bits and pieces in the right places - they just snap into place so you don't need glue, and you can take it apart again afterwards and start all over again. She was very proud to compare her time with the guide in the book and declare herself "an expert" because she managed to do it all in 10 minutes (ish - I forgot to time her actually so made a rough guess-timate - shhhh !!!)

Here she is with the finished model. She's already said that she can't wait to show it to her friends and make them go ewww ! Once she's got bored with it (if that ever happens), I'm sure the biology teacher at our school would love to put it on his shelf. It's a really fun and educational toy.

The dog (1:5 scale) and giraffe (1:16 scale) are new additions to the range for August 2012 but you can also get Crocodile, Frog, Tarantula, Great White Shark, Horse, Human Body and Skeleton.
