Heinz Hot Sauces recipe suggestions

I love all the different recipe challenges that come up every time Heinz launch a new product. You may remember me trying out the different Heinz Barbecue Sauce recipes and their Salad Cream with Chives recipe suggestions, both challenges which gave me some great ideas for using store cupboard staples in new and original ways.

Well, the latest offering from Heinz to land on the doormat at The Madhouse was their selection of new Hot Sauces. I instantly loved the look of this traffic light-coloured trio of sauces which look like a psychedelic version of Tabasco ! Heinz describe their new creations as follows :

  • Chipotle & Garlic is a smokey medium-spiced sauce with a hint of garlic making it a perfect partner for marinating your chicken or brightening your burger

  • Green Jalapeno is a tangy hot chilli sauce great for spicing up salsa or salads, or pouring over pizza

  • Yellow Habanero is a fiery but sweet chilli sauce great splashed on fajitas or splashed into stir fries

Well, as usual, they sent through some fabulous recipes to try out using them. I haven't had a chance to knock these up myself yet but they sound perfect for sweating out my cold and clearing out my stuffy nose so they're on the cards for next week ! In the meantime, here are the recipes, if you want to try them out for yourselves.

Fiery Chilli Con Carne with Chipotle & Garlic Heinz Hot Sauce

Serves: 4-6
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:
 large chopped onion
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
2 sprigs thyme roughly chopped
500g beef mince
400g can chopped tomatoes
150ml chicken or beef stock
3 tbsp Heinz Tomato Ketchup
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried oregano
1 bay leaf
400g can kidney beans drained and rinsed
10ml Heinz Hot Sauce - Chipotle & Garlic

Method:

Sweat the onion, garlic and thyme in a large saucepan. Meanwhile, brown the mince in a separate pan over moderate heat.

Add the dried herbs and spices to the onions for a couple of minutes until they release their aroma and then stir into the beef.

Add the tinned tomatoes and leave to cook down for approx 5 minutes. Pour in the stock and add Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

Drop the cinnamon and bay leaf in to the pot, bring to the boil and leave to simmer .Once the sauce is beginning to thicken add the kidney beans and leave to cook for another 5-10 minutes, allowing the beans to soak up the flavours.

Check for seasoning and stir through the Heinz Hot Sauce – Chipotle & Garlic to finish the dish.

Top tip : Serve the chilli on a mound of boiled rice with a dollop of sour cream and chives to finish it off.
