Pierre loves Fireman Sam so I knew he'd be really pleased when we received a Fireman Sam helicopter and DVD to review. The DVD is called Snow Trouble and, as you can imagine, features five episodes showing Pontypandy dealing with the trials and tribulations of a heavy snowfall. It's perfect viewing for Christmas, with tales of giant snowballs and even a bonus Christmas song, but it also shows the dangers of ice and snow with an avalanche and a bus skidding on to a frozen lake. But don't worry, Sam is the hero next door so he manages to come to everyone's rescue ! The DVD has a total runtime of just over an hour and Pierre sits down and watches the whole thing end to end each time.
Accompanying the DVD was a Fireman Sam rescue helicopter toy. It's made of bright orange plastic with yellow trim including rotating blades, plus a detachable sling. As a grown-up, I have to admit I was slightly disappointed, firstly because it doesn't come with a Fireman Sam (or any of the other characters) figure and secondly, because it seems rather flimsy. The yellow rotors keep getting pushed together and need fanning out.
However, Pierre had no such qualms and spent the whole afternoon playing with it, making helicopter noises, flying it around the front room making emergency landings and winching up random toys in the sling ! Seen through a child's eyes, it's obviously brilliant and enables any young fan to reenact scenes from their favourite Fireman Sam DVDs and books.
star rating : 5/5 for the DVD and 4/5 for the helicopter
RRP : £9.99 for the helicopter and £7.66 for the DVD

I like how the two products are teamed up so children can watch the DVD and then 'act out' what happened.
