Knorr Gourmet Spiced Roast Chicken review

We fancied trying something slightly different for our Sunday roast this week so we decided to sample one of the sachets from the Knorr Gourmet range : Spiced Roast Chicken with Chestnuts and a Hint of Citrus. It's designed to be used with a small whole chicken but we'd opted for six chicken legs instead.

After unfolding the plastic bag from the pack and putting the chicken in it, I drizzled the chicken with olive oil and sprinkled over the sachet of spices.

After squishing the bag about to get all the chicken evenly coated in seasoning, it was time to seal the bag and put it in the oven.

The bag blows up like a balloon so make sure it's not too high in the oven - it mustn't touch the top of the oven.

One of the chicken thighs looked a bit anaemic because it was on the bottom layer but the rest looked lovely and golden and really infused with the seasoning. The spices had combined with the juices from the chicken to create a lovely thin gravy too.

Flavour-wise, it was delicious. I couldn't personally taste the citrus notes but I could detect a lovely slightly nutty background taste which I wouldn't have been able to define if I didn't know it contained chestnuts, something I'd never tasted before but would be inclined to try again now.

The bag and bake format offers a totally foolproof way of creating an original and delicious twist on normal roast chicken, so if you fancy trying something new, maybe if you are a couple looking for an alternative to turkey for Christmas day, I would highly recommend it.
