Seed Pantry Herb Seeds Starter Pack review

The big thing that I regret about The Madhouse is that we don't have a garden. We do have a big patio so there's space for the kids to splash about in a paddling pool and we can have barbecues but we're limited in the fruit and veg that we can grow. I was therefore very pleased when Seed Pantry got in touch to ask us if we'd like to review one of their products.

Seed Pantry target people like us who long to get green-fingered and grow our own fruit, veg and herbs but who don't have much space. They explain : "Seed Pantry is a new venture bringing fresh seasonal food to urban dinner plates by ‘greening up’ even the smallest of city spaces, turning food miles into food metres. Delicious home-grown urban veg is made possible by utilising simple window boxes or containers in any outside space from your backyard, balcony and roof terrace to your back garden. With just 1-2 metres of space anyone can happily grow a range of quality herbs, salads and vegetables like carrots, beetroot, tomatoes, peppers and beans."

We received the Herbs Seeds Starter Pack, which contains everything you need to grow  basil, coriander, chives & parsley. You get the seeds, a mini propagator, bio-degradable pots, a dibblet, mini compost disks & labels, as well as detailed planting instructions. If you need extra guidance, they have a forum on their website where you can get expert advice too.

Having looked at their sowing guide, I need to wait for a couple of months before I can start growing but here's what it should all look like, (green) fingers crossed ! The Basil can be sown from February to July and harvested at 8 weeks, the Parsley and Coriander both need to be sown between March/April and September and harvested at 10 weeks and the Chives can be started from March to September and harvested at 8 weeks.

One thing that really caught my eye on the Seed Pantry website is the Three Seasons starter kit which is delivered in three packs during the year. Box one, delivered in December, includes award-winning Chilli varieties and growing kit, including Apaches, Navahoes and hot Habaneros. The second box arrives in March and contains seeds to grow gourmet summer vegetables – carrots, sweet peppers, mangetout, courgettes, rocket, lolla rossa lettuce, radishes and spring onions. Crisp winter greens Pak choi, rainbow chard, salad onions, and spicy leaves (rocket, mustards and sorrel) come in the third Autumn box, delivered in August, along with the required planting equipment. It costs £70 which does sound expensive but it's not too bad if you break it down for the three packs, and for a gift that keeps on giving throughout the year, it would be ideal for anyone who loves gardening or cooking with fresh produce. I know I'd love one, so if anyone reading this is still wondering what to get me for Christmas, there's a big hint there !!
