Byron Bay Cookies review

*** Don't miss the chance to win one of two Byron Bay Cookies Selection Boxes in my giveaway ! ***

With Christmas on the way, November and December are always the months that we get loads of toys to review here at The Madhouse, but you may have noticed, January seems to be the month of all things foodie here on the blog. Probably not good news for anyone (like me) trying to get healthy and lose weight !

Having been lucky enough to try out Byron Bay Cookies in the past, there was no way I was going to be turning down the opportunity to sample these little (well, actually they're rather big) beauties though, especially as the kids love them and - as they're individually wrapped - they're ideal for packed lunches and snacks on the go.

I was impressed to see that we had the choice of reviewing "classic" cookies or their gluten-free selection, which is great news for all you Coeliac-sufferers out there. I went for the regular cookies but we still got to sample a few of the gluten-free ones and I can honestly say that they are equally tasty.

The choice of flavours is impressive :

Gluten-Free Dotty (that's the Smartie-studded ones that the Madhouse Mini-testers go wild for !)
Triple Choc Fudge
Milk Choc Chunk
White Choc Chunk & Macadamia Nuts
Gluten-Free Strawberries & Clotted Cream
Gluten-Free Sticky Date
Ginger & Walnut

And that's just the ones that we sampled - there are several other varieties available.

The kids loved the chocolatey ones while my favourites were the strawberries & cream and white choc chunk & macadamia nuts ones. The good thing is, they're so big that there was no fighting because we could break each one into four pieces for tasting and still have a reasonably sized chunk of cookie each.

Taste-wise, they're lovely and have a real home-made flavour to them. (They remind me of Millie's Cookies, which are freshly baked, so it's great to find that quality in pre-packaged cookies.) They have the perfect slightly crunchy but slightly chewy texture that is so hard to achieve when you're baking your own cookies (especially when the kids invariably need help with their homework or going to the toilet at the crucial moment you should be taking them out of the oven !)

For Byron Bay Cookies, it's not all about the taste though. They're also serious about using only quality ingredients and keeping things local as far as possible, so they are now baked in the UK, cutting down on food miles considerably. The website explains that employees are also given a cash incentive to use pedal-power to get to work - how cool is that ?! The cookies are now certified by The Vegetarian Society after switching to only free-range eggs and hunting all over Europe to find a candy covered chocolate bean that is free from cochineal and gelatine. Talk about dedication !

If you're thinking you haven't seen these around, the large single-serving packs are available in cafes, coffee shops and health stores but there is also a range of gluten-free mini cookie bites which can be found in larger Sainsbury's in the free-from section.

Have I made you hungry now? Don't go away then, as there will be a giveaway in just a second where you will be able to win your very own taster box of Byron Bay Cookies. Yum !
