Eggspress Heart-shaped Boiled Egg Mould review

*** Don't miss my giveaway to win one here on my blog ! ***

How do you like your eggs in the morning? Soft-boiled with soldiers like your mum used to make? Sunny side up or over easy, if you're a fan of American series? Scrambled with smoked salmon if you're feeling posh? Fertilised, if you like corny pick up lines?! The options are mutiple but I bet you've never had a heart shaped boiled egg before !

With Valentine's Day on the horizon, I immediately loved the idea behind the Eggspress Boiled Egg Mould.

It's simple to use - you hard boil your egg, peel it, put it in the mould, place it in cold water (or the fridge) and a few minutes later .... suspense ! ... yes, you really do get a cute heart-shaped egg, much to the kids' delight ! Oh OK, I might have cheered a little bit too !

I'd never heard of boiled egg moulds before but they appear to be hugely popular in Japan. This youtube video shows you how well it works, even if it's not for the Eggspress mould in particular.

The only bad thing is, you can only do one egg at a time so if you have a big family, you'll need to buy several  (or spend all afternoon in the kitchen doing one at a time )- because everyone will want a heart-shaped egg and sulk if they get a normal egg, however old they are, believe me ! Luckily, they only cost £5 so it won't break the bank to buy several.

If you want a real wow-inducing breakfast in bed or romantic salad for Valentine's Day, it's brilliant.

Don't go away - I'll be back in a second with a giveaway so you can win one.

  2. I have been reading about this egg press on someone else's blog and couldn't stop giggling (I know, I'm easily amused) as the egg shapes looked more like little bums than hearts.

  5. This is a fab idea and looks like lots of fun, it would probably make the kids enjoy their eggs more too, my son is always more likely to eat a sandwich if I cut it into shapes!!

  7. This is a great idea to encourage the kids to eat eggs. It makes eating them a little less messier.

  9. curiosity....you are popping them in the mould and forcing them into shape, do they pop back out of shape if say you put on in for packed lunch 3 hrs later?

    1. I've thrown away the packaging but I seem to remember it says they should be eaten rapidly for best results. Not sure how long they'd hold their shape for to be honest because ours get eaten pretty swiftly ! You could leave it in the mould in the lunchbox, I guess ?
