This week's fruit & veg box

This week's selection made us go "oooh" ! We got some lovely fruit - a pineapple, some strawberries, a lime, some raspberries, an apple-pear (at least that's what Sophie told me it's called ! it looks like an apple and tastes like a pear and is a cross between the two apparently?), some oranges and blood oranges (which totally stunned Pierre and Juliette earlier in the week when they cut one open and thought it was real blood inside !!), a few different varieties of apples and pears. And on the veg front, some spring onions, some peas (the kids love shelling peas so that'll be fun !), a red onion and some "round courgettes". Anyone cooked with these before? I'm thinking of stuffing them with minced beef and/or rice and cooking them like a marrow but I have no idea if that's what you're supposed to do with them !

Sophie excitedly asked if we could make a fruit salad for dessert today - I love the way this has made the Mini-testers get so enthusiastic about their 5-a-day. We decided to keep the strawberries, raspberries and pineapple separate for something a bit special - or maybe just eat them sprinkled over ice cream?

Within minutes from getting back from the market, we had bowls of homemade coleslaw, fruit salad and salad - I've run out of room in the fridge but it's all healthy so I won't complain !

Let me know if you have any ideas for the raspberries, strawberries, pineapple or round courgettes - I'll be looking for insipiration online later on !

  2. Yes, roast them stuffed with minced beef/rice mix, or rice/mushrooms.
