Mr Bean Slider Puzzle App review

It always amazes me how Mr Bean continues to appeal to all generations. The Madhouse Mini-testers didn't really know who he was when they watched the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony so I looked up some videos of his classic clips on Youtube and they thought they were hilarious. Even in France, everyone knows Mr Bean and the kids at school love watching his quintessentially English clips, even if they're too young to have seen them when they were first released, so it hardly surprised me to see that a new app has been created featuring the cartoon version of Mr Bean.

The app is available on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire and, as the name suggests, features a selection of sliding puzzles. You can choose from six categories (Sport, Animals, Music, Food, Transport and Teddy) and each category has six images (all using graphics from the official Mr Bean Animated Series). You can choose the level of difficulty (four levels available, with each puzzle getting bigger and bigger : 3x3; 4x4; 5x5 and 6x6).

The Madhouse Mini-testers liked the idea but actually found it really hard. Even as a grown-up, I found it quite tricky at times and it can get really frustrating trying to solve the puzzle and messing it up more and more as you try to sort out the final tiles ! I didn't actually realise until writing this review that there is a hint option, which allows you to see the un-scrambled image and use a number function to see what order the puzzle goes in. That would definitely make it more simple and more adapted to younger players so I will point this out to the Madhouse Mini-testers when they get home from school.

It's a simple concept that anyone can pick up and try to play without complicated instructions, and it's actually quite addictive, especially if you get really stuck and don't want to admit defeat ! You can play against the clock, challenging your friends to beat your fastest time by sharing your time on Facebook, Twitter or email. The game is optimised for English, Spanish and Chinese but you don't really need to read anything to understand how to play.

It's a great brainteaser if you want something a bit more challenging than mindlessly popping bubbles !
