Schwartz Recipe Inspirations Kit review : Rosemary Roasted Chicken & Potatoes

Schwartz's slogan is "Add a little, change a lot". That fits in absolutely perfectly with the Rosemary Roasted Chicken & Potatoes Recipe Inspirations Kit that I tried out for last week's Sunday roast. I always add spices to the meat but had never thought of making a glaze with honey, so I was keen to see how it would turn out.

The kit contains six little blisters of herbs and spices - Rosemary, Garlic Granules, Lemon Pepper, Oregano, Paprika and Thyme. I love the convenience of them being measured out and the fact that they keep perfectly fresh, but the packaging does suggest that, once you've tried it and decided you like it, you should think about buying the big jars to recreate the dish at home. This would work out cheaper, but I still think the kits are a great idea if you don't have a huge selection of herbs and spices in your kitchen and don't know where to start.

I decided to use some Grenaille baby potatoes because they look prettier than big potatoes sliced up, but both would work. You drizzle a little oil over them then sprinkle over the first two pods - Rosemary and Garlic Granules - and give it all a good shake to coat the potatoes. They go in the oven while you prepare the chicken.

All of the other herbs and spices now go into a bowl along with a spoonful of honey, a spoonful of lemon juice and a pinch of salt.

Work it all together to create a nicely blended paste.

Use the spice paste to coat the chicken pieces and place them on top the potatoes then put it back in the oven and cook as you would a normal roast.

This created a lightly spiced, nicely seasoned meal that made a nice change to our usual roast chicken dinner. Making a glaze with honey and lemon juice mixed with spices is definitely something I'll be trying again because it worked really well.

  1. I used this kit as well last year, took photos, but forgot to blog about it. Maybe I should dig them out. I thought it was pretty good, except that I am not keen on dried rosemary, no comparison to the fresh one.

    1. I'm the same, I reviewed all the others last year and this one got left in the cupboard for some reason. I'm on a mission to use up all the sauces and spices that have been lurking at the back of my food cupboard for far too long !
