WeightWatchers Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce review and recipe idea


As I told you in this week's menu planner blogpost, my mission over the next few weeks is to use up all the jars and sachets of cooking sauces and seasonings in my food cupboard. Yesterday, I decided to use a jar of WeightWatchers Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce. I always like to add fresh ingredients so I looked through the fridge and decided to add bacon lardons, mushrooms, green pepper, red onion and carrot. I also threw in a couple of handfuls of frozen peas on a whim !


I put the bacon lardons in a frying pan and gently fried them (without adding any oil) over a low heat. While they were starting to cook, I chopped up all the vegetables and added them to the bacon when it looked pretty well cooked. I stir fried for a few minutes until everythig was cooked and the peas had defrosted.


I added the jar of sauce - I had a little taste first. It's very tomatoey with a subtle garlic flavour and I was pleasantly surprised at how thick it is. I was expecting a calorie-controlled sauce to be quite watery but this wasn't the case.


A few minutes later, when it was all perfectly warmed through, it was ready to serve with spaghetti. Everyone loved it, even the Madhouse Mini-testers, so it's a great way of sneaking vegetables into your (and their) diets !

Bearing in mind, this served a family of five with some left over, a half jar serving of the WeightWatchers sauce contains 2 ProPoints and 64 calories, as well as 11.2g of carbs (of which 5.1g sugars) and 0.4g of fat, so this is a really light option (especially if you leave out the bacon or replace it with ham).

  1. It looks delicious, it would be a good idea to state the nutritional values of the sauce as I am always after low calorie, low fat, low sugar alternatives. Thank you.
