Wright's Oat & Linseed Bread Mix review


When I was clearing out the baking cupboard last week, I came across a pack of Wright's Oat & Linseed Bread Mix that had been in the Shake Up Your Wake Up breakfast hamper for Farmhouse Breakfast Week a few months ago. There were so many pre-baked goodies to work through in the hamper that I hadn't had a chance to use it yet.

The bread mix can be used in a bread machine or for baking by hand. Either way, you just need the contents of the 500g pack and 300ml of lukewarm water. I put the mix in the bread machine with the water and set it on the "normal" 3-hour setting.


This is what came out - yum ! It was lovely and crispy and browned on top and had actually risen much more than the usual Lidl bread mix I use.


Inside, the bread was soft and chewy with a lovely scattering of seeds throughout so it was packed with flavour. Even the Madhouse Mini-testers loved it and they're often put off by bread with "bits" in !

According to the packaging, an average 45g slice contains 112 calories, 0.6g of sugars, 2.4g of fat (of which 0.3g saturates) and 0.5g of salt. Made with a combination of oat bran and wheat bran, it is also high in both soluble and insoluble fibre. More to the point, it tastes really lovely too.

  1. Love Wrights bread mixes - their cake mixes are brilliant too. Now, they are no relation to me but I use their mixes in my bread machine all the time = lovely fresh bread. Nothing smells better than bread baking or a cake just out of the oven or bread machine.
