Picture book review : Big ! - Tim Hopgood

We've been discovering lots of new picture books lately. Today, Pierre picked out Big! by Tim Hopgood from the pile that is waiting for us to review.

I instantly fell in love with the illustrations which have a slight retro feel to them. The story is very simple but one that will appeal to little readers - the little boy in the tale longs to grow up and constantly looks for proof that he is getting bigger, such as his trousers no longer reaching his ankles or feeling the end of the bed with his toes.

Pierre loved the way he constantly compares himself to other things, saying - for example - that he is very big compared to an ant but very small compared to a bear.

Pierre was entranced by the totally simple tale, excitedly pointing at the pictures as I read ! He often says "when I was little" which always makes me laugh because he's only 3, so this is obviously an issue close to young children's hearts !
