Soreen Chocolate Malt Loaf review

Breakfast caused a bit of the stir at The Madhouse this morning because the Mini-Testers got to eat chocolate - well, Soreen's new limited edition Chocolate Malt Loaf, which launched last month to celebrate Soreen’s 75th anniversary. It's described on the pack as "a chocolatey malt loaf with indulgent chocolate chips". I have to admit, I wasn't too sure - I love chocolate and malt loaf but wasn't totally convinced that the two would go together. Well, I was wrong - it's a match made in heaven !

You get the usual squishy malt loaf texture (am I the only one who gets smaller and smaller slices because it gets more and more compact the more I cut ?!) but as you eat, you get a subtle burst of chocolate as your teeth bite through a chocolate chip. The kids loved it and we all ate it straight from the pack, whereas they often ask to put butter on the regular malt loaf.

If you fancy giving it a try, you'll have to rush out to the shops though because it's only available for a few weeks. You can find it in Asda from 25th April until 15th May and in Morrisons from 20th May until 9th June.

It's great as breakfast, an addition to a lunchbox or a snack but Soreen also have a rather nice suggestion -  why not try the loaf grilled and smothered with vanilla ice cream and lashings of chocolate sauce for the perfect alternative to chocolate cake? Yum !

One 1/8th loaf serving contains 95 calories, 2.2g of protein, 16.1g of carbs (of which 6g sugar), 1.7g of fat (of which 0.9g saturates), 1.4g of fibre and 0.2g of salt.
