Wahl James Martin Hand Mixer review

I can often be found starting off my weekend salivating in front of Saturday Kitchen on the telly, and not just because of the mouth-watering dishes either, if I'm honest. I have to admit to having a huge soft spot for the rather tasty James Martin ! I was therefore very pleased to get a new gadget to play with in the Madhouse kitchen - a hand mixer that Wahl have created in collaboration with James Martin.

Inside the box you get the central unit plus four attachments - two whisks and two dough hooks. It looks quite snazzy and isn't very complicated to use so you won't need to spend hours poring over the instruction booklet before you dare to switch it on.

You also get a 20 minute DVD which showcases the range of products and offers recipes that you can try out, all presented by the lovely James Martin himself. I must say, I'm very tempted to try out the Raspberry and Passion Fruit Pavlova that he made to showcase the hand mixer and which looked totally simple yet utterly delicious. I've never have much success with meringues so maybe this hand mixer will be my saving grace ! You can see the recipe below, if you fancy giving it a go too.

I've used the hand mixer so far for beating cake mixture and making mayonnaise, both of which it did in record time and with zero effort. It's powerful enough to whisk things up quickly without making it all fly out of the bowl, but I have only used the first two power settings out of five so far ! It also has a turbo boost if needed and an easy unlock mechanism.

I'd never used an electric whisk before, thinking it was an unnecessary purchase as I managed just fine doing everything by hand, but I must admit I really like it, especially for labour intensive tasks like whipping cream or beating egg whites into meringues. I'm looking forward to playing around with it to see what else it can do - I wonder what I can make with those dough hooks !

I'm very pleased to announce that I'll be launching a giveaway in a few moments where you can win your very own hand mixer so don't go away !

  1. I'm looking for a mixer. I don't like the 'silver metal' looking one. Would like it in cream or white.

  5. These are perfect for egg-white beating. And so much easier to store than the beautiful table-top expensive mixers.
Perfect for space-strapped City Dwellers ;-)
