Lego Duplo Number Train review

The Mini-testers were very excited when this mysterious Lego Duplo bag arrived at The Madhouse. The "so many ways to play" slogan promised hours of fun so they couldn't wait to discover the contents.

Inside, they found a colouring sheet, some coloured pencils, a drinking bottle and, most importantly, a Lego Duplo Number Train.

The box gives the suggested age range as 2-5 years but that didn't stop 8-year-old Juliette and 12-year-old Sophie joining in with the playing and reviewing, although they were just there to help out 4-year-old Pierre, according to them !

The box contains a selection of brightly coloured bricks, some of which show the numbers from 1-10, so you can combine the fun of making a train with practising your pre-schooler's basic number skills. Very young children can use the picture on the box to make sure they get the numbers in the right order, but slightly older children can try to get the correct numerical order without using the model for help.

Pierre was very proud to get his numbers in the right order and make a fabulous looking train into the bargain. It has real rotating wheels so you can play with your creation, pushing it around on the floor or tabletop.

There are some extra bricks to help with creative play too - Pierre made a tower with them - and you also get a driver and his dog, which was a lovely touch. This means that you can practise your dexterity skills and roleplay, as well as basic numeracy - that's not bad at all for a toy that is above all great fun !

All three of the Madhouse Mini-testers enjoyed playing with the train and the joy of Lego and Lego Duplo is that this toy can be added to with further items from the range to increase the creative possibilities.

  1. I love the fact this toy doesn't seem to be gender specific, like a lot of the Duplo sets you see these days. I'm fairly jealous of it; it looks great!
