Ozeri Green Earth Frying pan review

You may remember me reviewing some very snazzy bathroom scales from Ozeri a few months ago, then some new digital kitchen scales. Well, I've been roadtesting another of their products lately - the Green Earth Pan. I was intrigued by the name so I set off to investigate what it was all about.

They explain that most non-stick pans use a coating of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), which is a synthetic substance that begins to decompose at very high temperatures and release fumes which may be harmful to humans. In addition, traditional pans incorporating PTFE are manufactured with the aid of PFOA (PerFluoroOctanoic Acid), which the EPA has classified as a 'persistent pollutant of the environment'.

The Green Earth Pan, on the other hand, uses a 100% ceramic coating derived from nature, which is completely free of PTFE and PFOA so it's safer for you and the environment. That's not the only advantage though. Ozeri also state that it is more durable and scratch-resistant than other non-stick surfaces, it's easier to clean and it allows you to cook with as little as half the amount of oil normally used because its non-stick properties are so good.

All sounds great on paper - time to get testing.

I used it to cook up some fishfingers for the kids and they didn't stick, fall apart or start burning on the outside as they sometimes do. I used a tiny amount of oil to help them turn a nice golden colour but it wasn't needed to stop them sticking.

I also used it for cooking up some pork chops - one at a time, as we received the small 20cm pan, which is big enough for one or, at a pinch, two people but not a whole family's meal. The meat cooked well without sticking at all - it was sliding around on the bottom of the pan rather than being awkward to flip over because it was sticking - but it didn't seem to go as crispy and browned as usual.

I've used it several times and it is still working perfectly. I have read that over time, a build up of food residue can reduce the non-stick properties, but a quick clean with vinegar or lemon juice will sort it all out, which is good to know.

It is more expensive than a regular frying pan but if you take into account the eco-friendly aspect and the lack of potential chemical nasties, it could be seen as a good investment.

star rating : 4.5/5

RRP : £39.95 for the 20cm pan

Disclosure : I received the product in order to write an honest review.

  2. thanks for this review. I'm currently on the market for a good eco friendly fry pan, I've heard ceramic is the safest to go for. This sounds like a good one :)
