Um Bongo Mango Tango review

As a child of the eighties, you may remember how excited I got about the relaunch of Um Bongo earlier in the year, when we received a carton of the Original Congocoction Juice Drink and the Orang Utan Orange Juice Drink. (You can read our review here.) Well, they went one better this time. To celebrate the launch of their brand new Mango Tango mango and apple variety, they sent us through a carton and also a really cool T-shirt that says "Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in Hastings" (which doesn't rhyme as well as The Congo but did make me smile more !).

The kids all pounced on the carton and within two days, it was all gone, which I think tells you everything you need to know about the taste ! I had some too, before it all disappeared, and it does have a lovely refreshing fruity flavour. It's a "juice drink", not pure fruit juice, so it doesn't taste as natural as genuine fruit juice but it is still a pleasant drink for adults and the kids preferred it to the sharper taste of most pure fruit juices.

It does actually contain real fruit too. The complete ingredients list is : Water, Apple Juice from Concentrate (10.5%), Mango Puree from Concentrate (10.5%), Sugar, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Citric Acid, Flavouring, Vitamin C. A 200ml glass contains 90 calories, zero fat, 21.8g of sugar, 0.6g of fibre and 48mg (or 60% of the RDA) of vitamin C.
