Picture Book Review : The Black & White Club - Alice Hemming

The Black And White Club is the charming tale of George the Giraffe, who lives at Heavenly Hippos Wildlife Park.

When he sees some of the animals sneaking off to a secret club set up by the penguins, he wants to join in but he's turned away at the door – you have to be black or white or black and white to get in.

Feeling left out, he first tries desperately to fit in – Pierre giggled when he tried to paint himself black ! - then he decides to make his own club which everyone joins (except the penguins !).

It's a lovely story of friendship and touches on some important topics that you can approach with your child, such as feeling left out, playground cliques and even racism or intolerance.
