Family DVD review : The Smurfs 2

I used to love The Smurfs when I was a kid - every week, I'd get my pocket money and drive off with my dad to the local National Garage so that I could choose the latest figurine to add to my collection ! - so I was very pleased to get the chance to review The Smurfs 2, which was released on DVD and Blu Ray last week.

In the first Smurfs movie, the lovable blue creatures found themselves in the heart of New York City and had to find their way home before the evil wizard Gargamel tracked them down. In The Smurfs 2, Gargamel is causing trouble again. He creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties, hoping they will let him harness the magical Smurf-essence. However, he soon discovers that he needs the help of Smurfette, who knows the secret to turning the Naughties into real Smurfs. When Gargamel and his Naughties kidnap Smurfette from Smurf Village and bring her to Paris, it's up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity to reunite with their human friends, Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her.

It's a great family movie full of laughs and Sophie was very impressed that the voice of Smurfette was provided by Katy Perry. The mixture of CGI animation and live action works very well. The Blu-ray version has some great bonus content too, including featurettes on how Azrael, Gargamel's cat, was brought to the screen, and how Katy Perry tapped into her inner Smurfette !

To celebrate the release, primary school kids across Britain have been asked Smurfy questions and, as usual, kids say the funniest things ! Have a look here ...

I decided to get involved with the Madhouse kids too and here are their answers ...
