Orgran Gluten Free Pasta review


Orgran, producers of a wide range of gluten-free food, recently sent us through a parcel of some of their goodies to sample. We received a Buckwheat Pancake Mix, some Buckwheat Pasta Spirals and a little tin of Spaghetti.


Convinced that this would be the Madhouse Mini-testers' favourite, I started off with the tin of spaghetti. It looked just like any other tinned spaghetti that we've ever eaten and the sauce is identical to their regular brand. However, they found the spaghetti too hard for their tastes - I had a little sample myself and must admt that it does have a much firmer texture than most regular tinned spaghetti. It's the only gluten-free canned spaghetti on the market though, so if you or your children need a gluten-free diet, they may not be as critical as my brood was !


OK, on to plan B, let's try the dried pasta instead !


I decided to use a mixture of buckwheat pasta spirals and white pasta farm animal shapes to make it as kid friendly as possible and cover all bases ! Pierre stepped in as my sous-chef again and poured over a jar of pasta bake sauce.


After sprinkling over some parmesan, we popped it in the oven for 40 minutes than all tucked in. It got a resounding thumbs up, so much so that I may well be tempted to swap over to buckwheat pasta instead of our usual white pasta as it's a healthier option. Nobody suspected that it was gluten-free pasta either !


100g of Orgran Buckwheat Pasta Spirals contains 352 calories, 12.8g of protein, 73.6g of carbs, 0.2g of sugar, 0.7g of fat (of which 0g saturates) and 8g of fibre.

  1. Interesting review :) My grandfather is coeliac and has always said that gluten free pasta is horrid, we might need to give this another try now!
