DVD review : Dolphins - Spy In The Pod

You may have recently seen the two-part documentary Dolphins - Spy In The Pod on BBC1. If you missed it, and you've been kicking yourself ever since, you might like to know that it will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray next week, on the 17th February. (And also that I'll have a giveaway to win a copy in just a moment !)

From the creators of Earthflight and Penguins - Spy In The Huddle, the 2-hour documentary takes us right into the heart of close-knit groups of dolphins across the world, from the Spinner dolphins of the Pacific and the Bottlenose dolphins off Mozambique to the clever mullet-hunting dolphins off Florida whipping up a mud wall to encircle their prey.

For the first time ever, the team created thirteen camouflaged spy creatures, including a spy turtle, spy squid, spy tuna  and spy dolphin, to get up close and personal to the dolphins and their other aquatic friends - sometimes quite literally, so I couldn't help but laugh when one amorous turtle starts trying to seduce the spy turtle !

I've seen numerous documentaries about ocean wildlife in the past, but I still saw lots of footage showing behaviour that I'd never seen before so it was fascinating to watch. Even the Madhouse Mini-testers sat and watched the whole thing with me ! The narration, by David Tennant, and the carefully chosen music really add to the atmosphere too.
