Madhouse Diaries : School Mardi Gras Carnival

Yesterday was the last day of school before the holidays and this is how Pierre went to school ! Dunkirk has a huge annual carnival and people of all ages get involved, so in our town, Friday was school carnival, today is the kids' carnival, Sunday is the proper carnival and Monday is the OAPs carnival. This is then repeated next weekend in Dunkirk with celebrations going on in all the surrounding towns for the next two months!

All the kids had been busy making confetti at school with holepunchers !

Most of it got thrown in the air before we'd barely left the school gates !

Pierre seemed to spend the whole afternoon surrounded by little girls wanting to hold his hands ! I guess that's what comes from having sisters, not brothers, at home !

These are his two favourite girl-friends. The little bee is called Camille and has declared that she is going to buy a big princess dress and marry him !

We went round the neighbourhood streets, following the band leader and the musicians with drums and pipes.

The big umbrellas led the way and lots of people waved out of their windows as we passed !

When they'd run out of confetti, all the kids started filling their bags with the confetti on the floor again. I started off saying there might be dog wee but nobody else batted an eyelid. Oh well, if you can't beat them, join them !

How much fun can YOU have with some brightly coloured bog brushes?!

Even the dads got involved !

Once the parade was over and we'd wound our way back to school, it was time to let off some steam in the playground.

Where do they get their energy from ?!

"Come and play with meeeeee !" (It worked too !)

Maybe I should draw a circle on the floor of the living room and tell him not to move when he's getting under my feet ! It seems to work in the playground without even asking him !

Deep in conversation with a "big girl" princess. When I asked what her name was, he said "I don't know, I don't know her" !

Ahhh you can't have carnival without pancakes !

Believe it or not, they're off doing it again with Madhouse Daddy as I type, not with the school but in the town this time so it's a much bigger version. That should wear them all out for the start of half term !
