Picture book review : Princess Stay Awake - Giles Paley-Phillips

You can tell just by looking at the picture what Pierre thought of Princess Stay Awake, the latest book by Giles Paley-Phillips, who had already enchanted us with The Fearsome Beastie and Tamara Small and the Monsters' Ball.

It tells the tale of a cheeky princess called Layla who just doesn't want to go to sleep. Her exhausted parents, the King and Queen, do everything they can think off to tire her out and make her sleepy, from telling her stories and getting her a soft bed to making her run around the maze, but nothing works.

Until, in desperation, they call on the royal grandma  who has one final trick up her sleeve. Hurray for grandmas !

It's a lovely book that will strike a chord with sleep-deprived parents (past and present) who will smile nostalgically at Layla's antics. The Madhouse Mini-testers loved the story in rhyme (bedtime stories are always so much more fun when they rhyme !) and the cute, colourful illustrations by Adriana J. Puglisi which accompany the text.
