Madhouse diaries : The sun has got his hat on !

Look at the colour of that sky - no photoshopping involved ! - so we couldn't stay in on a beautiful day like that. We headed off on a long walk to the beach but decided to take a route we've never taken before (in parts) to see what we could discover. We admired the beautiful three-master ship La Duchesse Anne that is permanently moored in Dunkirk.

We walked along the quayside looking at the fishing boats and the lighthouse and discovered that seals have been coming up on to the ramps to dry off in the sun. There weren't any today though sadly - that would have been a really cool surprise.

We did discover some pretty red admiral butterflies dancing in the sunshine though.

Then we saw the mess they've made of the beach - eeek ! The violent waves in the recent storms damaged part of the sea defences so they're bringing in huge quantities of sand to prevent flooding in the future.

Luckily, the lovely sandy beach is still intact on the other side.

Happiness is ... an ice cream almost as big as your head !

Pierre and Sophie agreed.

Right, time to burn off the calories from the ice creams !

I attempted to get a family portrait but failed to get one without somebody closing their eyes because of the sun !

Taking individual photos was the best I could do but at least they have matching smiles ! Here's Pierre ...

Juliette ...

and Sophie.

Right Mum, stop taking photos and let me get back to making my sand angels !

This is where I want to go for our next adventure - walking along the huge jetty to St Pol lighthouse. I was up for it yesterday but the kids wanted to stay and play on the sand - not fair !
