#PledgeOneHour of quality time with your kids !

You may remember that a couple of months ago, we reviewed a Weekend Box - it's a subscription service for a box containing pretty much everything you need to carry out four activities (Something to Cook, Something to Make, Something to Explore and Something Green) for 3-8 year olds. We had great fun making a bird feeder, a sand art picture, some 3D glasses and some jacket potato boats.

Weekend Box recently commissioned a study of over 1,100 UK parents with an independent research company to try and understand how much quality time parents get to spend with their children. The results are actually quite sad.

It found that :

- 40% of parents spend less than 1 hour of quality time each day with their children.

- Only 14% of parents surveyed managed to spend five hours of quality time with their children a day.

- Of the respondents, 82% of parents wanted to spend more time with their children and 95% felt that carrying out activities together helped bring them closer to their children.

Just under three-quarters of parents said that simply having access to new ideas and resources would significantly help increase the amount of time they would be able to spend with their children.

To coincide with and in response to the publication of this research, Weekend Box Club have teamed up with the National Trust and Project Wild Thing to launch a campaign for parents this Easter called #PledgeOneHour.

Come rain or shine, the website - www.pledgeonehour.com - gives free access to a treasure chest of different activities from simple, child-friendly recipes to arts & crafts as well as great outdoor exploratory activities and the National Trust’s famous ’50 Things To Do Before You’re 11 3/4’.

I've had a quick look through and some of the activities that leapt out at me were Bottle Top Crocs, Egg Box Beasties, Popcorn Cupcakes, Mini Apple Scones, Fairy House and Wild Journal. There are things to do indoors on a rainy day or outside when the weather is nice. They're all quick and simple and use things you'll have around the house, making it even easier to #PledgeOneHour and spend some quality time bonding with your kids.
