Kids' app review : Dr. Panda’s Toy Cars

Dr Panda has a new app and we received a code to try it out. In this latest offering, you get to play with virtual toy cars.

There are two cities to explore, one in winter with snow-covered landscapes and one in a sunny spring setting. This is a great way of getting your children to think about the different seasons.

The Madhouse Mini-testers were intially a bit confused about it being a free-play game. They're used to very structured apps with specific targets, levels to work through or time limits so the idea of just doing their own thing, at their own pace, threw them to begin with ! They soon got to grips with it though and had fun driving around, exploring and discovering little surprises along the way.

There are eight different vehicles to choose from, including fire truck, police car, ambulance, boat and van.  Each vehicle has unique traits, so you can carry cargo in the truck, help people with an ambulance, sound your siren, honk your horn and so on. You can also control two cars at the same time, which saved a few arguments !

The app encourages your children to use their imaginations and make up stories as they play. As a grown-up, I must admit I got bored quickly but both Pierre and Juliette (aged 4 and 9) keep coming back to it, driving around, changing vehicles and interacting with things they find around the towns.

The app costs £1.49 and has no in-app purchases or third party ads, which makes a nice change !

star rating : 4/5

RRP : £1.49
