Amy's Kitchen Rice Mac & Cheese review

Here's my review of our final Amy's Kitchen frozen ready-meal - after the Broccoli & Cheddar Bake and the Vegetable Lasagne, we tried the Rice Mac & Cheese. This uses gluten-free rice pasta in a cheese sauce made with gluten-free rice four, butter, milk and mature Cheddar.

Straight out of the freezer, I must admit it didn't look very appealing.

Even after the recommended 30-35 minutes in the oven, it still looks like a solid, rather uninspiring lump of congealed pasta.

Once served, it looks a lot better though. It actually looks very similar to my homemade pasta bakes. Flavour-wise, it's not bad but I found it a bit bland - I sprinkled some garlic pepper and smoked paprika on top to liven it up a bit - and the pasta tasted a bit soggy and powdery, but I know that this is a common failing with gluten-free pasta so I won't hold it against them !

Each pack contains 400 calories, 6.1g of sugar, 16g of fat (of which 10g saturates) and 1.6g salt. I served half of the Rice Mac & Cheese with half of the Vegetable Lasagne and the two complemented each other really well, especially with some salad and cherry tomatoes on the side.

Again, this can be cooked straight from frozen so it gets top marks in terms of convenience.
